Mission Statement

To protect and enhance the quality of life of the citizens of Woodstock through intelligent, forward thinking, open-minded, responsive representation.

Strategy for Achieving the Mission

  • Openly encourage community dialogue
  • Proactively identify significant community issues and opportunities requiring effective action
  • Creatively develop an action plan to address community issues and opportunities
  • Collaboratively work with residents to implement the action plan to affect positive change

We will support responsible representation that will:

  • Encourage proactive community involvement and uphold responsive representation of the community agenda.
  • Uphold cultural diversity and openly invite broad-based dialogue.
  • Embrace residential, retail and industrial development that contributes to our economic base, quality of life, and provides variety in housing, shopping and employment opportunities.
  • Support balanced growth among residential, retail, and industrial sectors to promote economic development and shift our tax base from residential property taxes to greater commercial tax contributions.
  • Manage the rate of growth to avoid undue financial burden on current residents.
  • Maintain and expand high quality public services and address public utility extension and traffic needs.
  • Support District 200 in its efforts to provide quality education to an increasing student population.
  • Support quality community parks, recreational facilities, and programming opportunities for all residents.
  • Uphold historic preservation and protect the environment.
  • Manage the financial resources of local government in a fiscally sound and efficient manner.
  • Foster cooperation and open communication in every aspect of community development.

Our Purpose

We want Woodstock to be a vibrant, growing community. . .

. . .with a thriving downtown business, retail and service sector on the Square and in Woodstock Station.

. . .with successful retail corridors on Routes 14 and 47, continued commercial development and an expanded industrial corridor on Highway 120 and Lamb Road.

. . .with a stable tax base that is sustained by balanced residential, retail and industrial development

. . .that encourages infill, as well as growth in areas designated for development in the comprehensive plan.

. . .that regularly celebrates its historic past, as well as its artistic, creative and cultural diversity.

. . .with enhanced parks and recreational system.

. . .with a fully developed and implemented transportation plan for Route 47.

. . .with protected natural resources and an adequate, safe water supply.

. . .with highly regarded schools and a staff educating motivated, achieving, disciplined students.

. . .with city commission appointees who are forward thinking, reasoned individuals who consider all segments of the community when making decisions.
